Clark Cancer Center

Quality cancer care close to home.

The Clark Cancer Center has brought much-needed radiation oncology services to the Upper Cape and South Shore. The new facility is located on the campus of Falmouth Hospital in the Medical Office Building (MOB), with easy access near the front door of the hospital and convenient parking nearby.

The state-of-the-art facility opened on Feb. 22, 2011, and is a joint project of Cape Cod Healthcare and Shields Health Care Group. It was made possible by a transformational gift of $10 million from James and Ruth Clark of Falmouth. It was the largest single gift ever presented to Cape Cod Healthcare.
The Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary contributed $1 million to the new center, its largest pledge ever.

Radiation Therapy is the first phase in a multi-phase plan that features a two-floor 15,000-square-foot facility. Radiation therapy comprises 9,600 square feet on the first floor of the MOB. The center is staffed by board-certified Radiation Oncologists Dan Canaday, MD; Molly Sullivan, MD; and Robert McAnaw, MD. Together, they have been treating Cape Cod patients for the last 20 years and are part of a Cape Cod Healthcare oncology program that was ranked second in Massachusetts in quality by The Delta Group, a leading health care information services company.

The Clark Cancer Center has the most sophisticated technology equipment available anywhere in the country. Cape Cod Healthcare and the Clark Cancer Center provide local access to the latest and most reliable specialty imaging and therapies available:

  • Respiratory Gating
  • Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
  • Imaged Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
  • Brachytherapy for Breast*, GYN* and Prostate
  • Diagnostic Fusion Technology
  • Prostate Seed Implant Program
  • Onboard Imaging with Cone Beam CT
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery*
  • Large Bore CT

(*Treatment available at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis)

At a March 3, 2011, open house for the Clark Cancer Center, Jim Clark told about 200 people gathered that he and his wife became involved in the project because they are both cancer survivors who endured long trips to Boston for radiation therapy, because no treatment was available locally. Exhausted from the treatment, alone, the added burden of the trips made it all the more difficult.

“The cancer is gone, but the memory of that commute is not,” he told the crowd. “It’s been a privilege to help with this project and to help so many people find comfort, peace and hope.”
